Supplement Bottles with PCR Claims: Identify the Package Component the Statement Covers

Keep a recycled-resin bottle statement separate from capsule ingredients, closure construction and local recycling acceptance.

Environmental wording can sit beside ingredient and quality symbols on a supplement page, making unrelated claims look like one combined certification. A statement about recycled bottle resin answers a packaging question. It does not describe the supplement formula. This guide uses a current manufacturer statement to show how to record its precise scope before comparing packages.

Identify the object of the percentage claim

The consulted NOW hyaluronic-acid capsule page states that the bottle is made from 100% PCR, or post-consumer recycled, resin. The named object is the bottle. Keep that wording in the packaging field with the exact product reference. Do not turn it into a statement that the supplement ingredients are recycled, that every package component has the same material composition, or that every bottle sold by the brand uses that resin.

Separate recycled content from the next disposal step

FTC’s consumer guidance asks shoppers to check whether a recycled-content statement concerns the product, the package or both. It also treats recycling-related claims as information that needs its own scope. A bottle-content statement does not, on its own, establish acceptance of the bottle, cap, label or seal by a particular local collection program. Keep those component and local-program questions separate instead of assigning one universal green checkmark.

Worked example: untangle a sustainability filter

Imagine an illustrative catalogue marks an entire supplement recyclable and recycled because it reads the bottle’s PCR sentence. Replace the two broad badges with one attributed statement about bottle resin. Add separate unknown fields for the closure material and local collection rules. The formula’s ingredient list stays untouched. The product is now described more accurately even though the worksheet has fewer affirmative badges and no overall environmental ranking.

Compare the current offered package

Manufacturers can use different packaging across sizes or product versions. Request the actual package information for the offer instead of transferring a statement from another bottle. Preserve the original container and its label for product identification; an environmental preference is not a reason to decant supplement contents into an unlabelled recycled container. This article does not evaluate the resin’s contact performance, certify a package or calculate a carbon footprint. Its narrower purpose is to prevent a statement about one named material from expanding into unsupported formula or disposal claims. If a local disposal question matters, use the current instructions of the relevant collection program. If a formula question matters, return to the complete current product label. The two records can coexist without being merged.
